is listed as age 59; in the 1870 census he is listed as age 72, in the 1880 he is listed as age 95.

Nancy's age also varies a good deal: in the 1860 census she is listed as age 45; in the 1870

census she is age 54 and in the 1880 census she is 68. His tombstone says he was born 15 Sept

Wike, widow of the late J. C. Wike, of Taylorsville, who passed away Tuesday morning at 1:30

o'clock at Davis Hospital, Statesville, where she had been a patient since Thurday, the 1st, was

conducted from the First Baptist Church here this morning at 11 o'clock by the pastor, Rev. C.C.

Holland, assisted by Rev. E. V. Bumgarner, a former pastor. Messrs. Garley Foster, J.M. Childers,

anniversary. November 5, 1902, was the date of her marriage to Mr. J.C. Wike, of Alexander

County, and they made their home in the Salem community where Mr. Wike was engaged in the

mercantile business, for a few years before removing to Taylorsville. Mr. Wike was in the

mercantile business and lumber business here until his death five years ago. Mrs. Wike was a

loyal member of the First Baptist church and an active member of the Taylorsville Women's Club.

She is survived by ten children, two sons and eight daughters, Mr. Weaver Wike, of Washington,

D.C.; Mrs. J. C. Cross of San Antonio, Texas, both of whom arrived Sunday to be with their mother;

Mrs. C. F. Leckie, Misses Cecil, Dixie, Louise, Christine, Hazel , and Ruth Wike and Max Wike,

Doris Earp Wike Jenkins, age 93, of Taylorsville, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at

Taylorsville House. She was born in Alexander County on February 24, 1921 to the late Clete Earp

and Jennie Lail Earp. Doris was retired from Schneider Mills. She was a member of East

Taylorsville Baptist Church and she enjoyed gatherings of family and friends on Lake Hickory for

cookouts, as well as crocheting gifts for her family. Along with her parents, Doris was preceded in

death by her first husband, Rayford Wike, as well as her second husband, Clayton Jenkins;

daughter: Lorrie Wike; two infant brothers; and sisters: Alma Milstead, Amelia Hollifield, Margie

Deal, and Pauline Murdock. Those left to cherish her memory include daughters: Gaynell Wike

Harrington (Raymond) of Taylorsville, Elaine Wike Dagenhart (Harold) of Taylorsville, and Noel

Wike Kerley (Jeff) of Taylorsville; stepson: Lee Jenkins (Kathy) of Cary, NC; stepdaughters: Sarah

J. Lail (Gary) of Bethlehem, and Jan J. Austin (Perry) of Taylorsville; nine grandchildren; 18 great

2007, at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born in Alexander County on March 13, 1922, a

son of the late Robert Thomas Nelson Jenkins and Florence Ann Smith Jenkins. He was a retired

textile worker and a member of Liledoun Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy,

having served during World War II, and was an avid gardener. In addition to his parents, he was

preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Deal Jenkins; two sisters, Ila Jenkins Carrigan

McLelland and Grace Jenkins; and three brothers, Ray Jenkins, Ernest Jenkins and John Jenkins.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Earp Wike Jenkins of the home; daughters, Sarah Jenkins Lail

and husband, Gary, of Bethlehem and Jan Jenkins Austin and husband, Perry, of Taylorsville; a
