Philharmonic Chorus and four outstanding vocal soloists in
a concert dedicated to operatic masterworks.
Our Pops Series is eclectic and diverse in its offerings, as
we kick off the season with the music of superhero movies
and video games. We will welcome back to Evansville
the amazing singer Dan Domenech for our Peppermint
Pops concerts, and I am very much looking forward to
showcasing trumpeter and singer Byron Stripling in a
special concert featuring the music of Louis Armstrong.
Please join us for another inspiring season filled with
beautiful music, passionate performances, and meaningful
connections with our community.
Sincerely,
Roger Kalia

Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Evansville Philharmonic’s 89th season! As
always, I strive to create inspiring performances with our
incredible musicians in the Victory Theatre and beyond. You
will experience new music paired with classic masterworks,
world-class guest artists, and collaborations with a variety
of groups throughout Evansville.
Our Classics Series will feature internationally
acclaimed pianist Jon Nakamatsu, rising star violinists Nikki
and Timothy Chooi, and tabla virtuoso Sandeep Das. I am
excited to highlight our incredible musicians in a concert
titled “Musician Showcase,” where they will take center
stage as soloists and introduce each work. You will also
enjoy the Evansville premiere of Sheridan Seyfried’s Double
Concerto for Two Violins and the EP’s first-ever performance
of a tabla concerto, in addition to the grandest masterpieces
in the repertoire such as Pictures at an Exhibition, Brahms’
Fourth Symphony, and Rachmaninoffs passionate Second
Symphony. Additionally, we will highlight the Evansville

Sheridan Seyfried Double Concerto for Two Violins & Orchestra
Modest Mussorgsky/Ravel Pictures at an Exhibition
Opening night begins with Samuel Barbers Overture
to The School for Scandal. As Barbers first work
for a full orchestra, the overture helped establish
Barber's national reputation and became a regular
part of American orchestras’ repertoire. The evening
featuresan Evansville premiere with Sheridan
Seyfried’s Double Concerto for Two Violins and
Orchestra featuring NikkiandTimothy Chooi,a brother
violin duo who have been making music together since
they were kids in Canada. Seyfried’s Double Concerto
was written especially for the Chooi brothers to express
their special bond and their individual personalities. The
third movement is a tribute to Bela Fleck and bluegrass.
The final work performed is one of Mussorgskys most
famous pieces, Pictures at an Exhibition, highlighting
the solo trumpet in particular. The “Great Gate of Kiev”
is one of the piece’s most majestic and grand finales.

MUSICIAN SHOWCASE

JON NAKAMATSU, PIANO
ROGER KALIA, CONDUCTOR
Johann Sebastian Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 3
Ludwig van Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3
Johannes Brahms Symphony No. 4
This powerful program features music of the three most
popular and recognized composers in classical music.
Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 is known for its
unusual form and instrumentation — three violins, three
violas, three cellos, and basso continuo — and one of
his most famous works. Beethovens Piano Concerto
No. 3 bridges the divide between his two earlier, more
clearly Mozart-derived concertos and a more personal
style. Returning to Evansville to perform Beethoven’s
Piano Concerto No. 3 is internationally celebrated
pianist Jon Nakamatsu, who continues to draw
critical and public acclaim for his intensity, elegance,
and electrifying solo, concerto, and chamber music
performances. Brahms’ Fourth (and final) Symphony is
full of warmth and beauty, and the symphony cuts as
close to the heart as music can.
