Grading and GPA Calculations
A weighted grade point average (GPA) is calculated at the end of the sixth semester. A quality point value is assigned to
each course. The total number of points earned is divided by the number of courses completed, and then the GPA is
assigned. This weighted GPA is reported on the transcript.
A seventh semester GPA is calculated after second marking period grades are calculated; this takes place in early March.
This weighted GPAs is posted on students mid year transcripts and will be sent to colleges who request them.
All courses at Bayonne High School are included in the GPA with the exception of Physical Education/Health and any
elective that has a grade of S or U. Credits earned in other schools are listed on the transcript and are calculated into the
GPA.

Letters of Recommendation
The Counseling Department does not release letters of recommendation to students or parents under any circumstances. We are happy
to send letters directly to the recipient electronically, if possible, or by postal mail in a pre-addressed, stamped envelope provided by the
student. A release/waiver form needs to be on file prior to sending.
