It brings me immense pleasure to welcome you to the rst of our Brighter Sounds Concerts at Faireld Halls.
Through this concert we share with you our vision for music in Wandsworth. It is, quite simply, to inspire our
children and young people with a lifelong love and enjoyment of music, and to demonstrate that music really is
for everyone!
Tonight, we celebrate the musical achievements of more than 550 young people from Wandsworth schools and
the Wandsworth Music Academy. We are also thrilled to showcase the work of some our inspiraonal partners.
We open the show with the Wandsworth Concert Orchestra, one of three orchestras at the Wandsworth Music
Academy. This term the orchestra have received coaching from members of long standing hub partners the
Philharmonia Orchestra.
Young Musicians from Garra Park, Nighngale, Oak Lodge and Paddock Schools are joined onstage by
members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to perform their own original composion, ‘Express Yourself’. The
music is accompanied by original animaons created by the pupils under the guidance of visual arst Reza Ben
Gajra.
Furzedown Djembe drummers take us on a trip to West Africa as they perform tradional rhythms from Guinea,
led by inspiraonal master drummer Mohamed Gueye. The rst half is brought to a close by the fabulous
Burntwood Chamber Choir, directed by Debbie Lammin.
The second half features the Wandsworth Primary Choir, performing hits from stage and screen. Tonight’s
performance is the culminaon of the Spring Term vocal project where 16 parcipang schools and more than
800 children have received specialist tuion from Wandsworth Music Vocal Leaders.
We are very grateful for the connued support of the London Music Fund and Thomas’s Foundaon for their
