Conviction Disposition Summary
Interpretation Guide
Understanding the Conviction Disposition Summary
The data reported here is collec
ted by the Michigan Department of State (MDOS), as authorized by MCL
257.625i(2). The report includes cases adjudicated in the past calendar year. Obtaining information for the
Conviction Disposition Summary is a two-step process.
Upon receiving a plea, the conviction abstract that Michigan courts send within 5 days of adjudication
provides the conviction information for the audit.
At sentencing, the "Michigan Alcohol Audit Statistical Report," or sentencing abstract, provides disposition
and sanctions (e.g., fine and costs, community service, imprisonment, immobilization, forfeiture, alcohol
treatment), typically several weeks after a plea.
Comparing judge activities from this report may be misleading. Judges may have reports from different
judicial levels and/or courts due to assignments. Circuit court OWI cases are felonies and have greater
sanctions.
All data is gathered from information supplied by the courts to the MDOS. If the statistical data for a given
court appears to be abnormal, contact the court directly. The court personnel may be able to work with their
court management computer system vendor to clarify the information.
Judge Identification Number - P Number
Each attorney in Michigan is assigned a "P Number" as an identification number. The State Court
Administrator's Office has provided the MDOS with a list of P numbers for judges and for temporarily
assigned judges. Edits have been programmed to ensure accurate numbers. There is a column heading
labeled "Unknown" for the few abstracts with P Numbers that cannot be identified.
Index and Organization of Report
The organized report is by circuit court, district court, municipal court, and family (probate) court judges.
Within each court type, the judges’ summaries are arranged alphabetically by the city in which the court is
located. Additional indexes list judges alphabetically by last name for easy reference.
The exception to this format is the summary data for Alcohol Immobilizations, 904 Immobilizations,
Forfeitures, and Licensing Sanctions Imposed by the Secretary of State (SOS). These reports follow the
Court Disposition Summaries.
Data summaries for each court type included in the report are included at the end of the data section for the
type of court. A statewide summary can be found at the end of the report.
For retired, deceased, or temporarily assigned judges, the data will be reported under the primary court in
which the most data was received.
