GUIDELINES FOR PROPER
PPE USE AND CARE
From multi-bands to safety glasses and hi-vis apparel, there are certain best practices for usage and
cleaning of all PPE. Taking these measures is especially important given the current threat of Covid-19.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
CLEANING
PPE should be cleaned daily per the care instructions on the product label or packaging. In the case of lost or missing
instructions, please reference the below recommendations.
FOR ITEMS THAT ARE MACHINE WASHABLE (FACE MASKS, BANDANAS, COOLING TOWELS, ETC.)
FOR ITEMS THAT ARE NOT MACHINE WASHABLE (SAFETY GLASSES, HARD HATS, ETC.)
All PPE should be assigned to a specific individual—it is
not to be shared under any circumstance.
PPE should not be reused without proper daily cleaning.
For this reason, individuals should be allocated enough
equipment to support multiple days of work.
Before and after placing or removing PPE, wash hands
with soap and water or disinfect with alcohol-based hand
rub for at least 20 seconds.
Face protection should cover both the nose and mouth.
As much as possible, avoid adjusting face masks and
safety glasses.
Machine Wash: Face coverings can usually be
included with regular laundry. Use standard detergent
and wash in the warmest appropriate setting for the
cloth used (most Ergodyne products are cold water
wash only).
Drying: If using a dryer, use the highest appropriate
heat setting until completely dry. If a dryer is not
available, lay flat to air dry—placing in direct sunlight
when possible.
Washing by Hand: Wash in warm soapy water, soak
for five minutes and rinse thoroughly with cool water.
If bleach is intended for disinfectant, mix 1/3 cup
household bleach per gallon of water. Soak for five
minutes and rinse thoroughly with cool water.
Drying: Lay flat to air dry, placing in direct sunlight
when possible.
